DEODAT DE SEVERAC
20^th July 1872 --- 24^th March 1921

Deodat de Severac was born on 1872 in Saint-Felix-de-Caraman, France. His family ancestry and the area from the which the musical traditions
of his birthpalce, influenced him as a composer, this was the time, were a new stlye of French music was beginning to develope with the likes
of Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Erik Satie, Gabriel Faure.

He first studied music in Toulouse, he then went to study music under Alberic Magnard at the School Cantorumin in Paris, later he took Organ
lessons from Alexandre Guilmant, he became a assistant to Isaac Albeniz.   A few years later after his studies he moved to the South of France
were he stayed until he died in 1921. He lived in the part of south France, which attracted a number of his contemporariesartists and poets. He
produced in Beziers his opera Heliogabale in 1910.

Severac composed various vocal and choral music, some of which he set to the language of Languedoc, his solo piano pieces have received high
praise, they were in the style of pictorial evocations, which were printed as a collections, En Languedoc and Chant de la terre. His most famous
piece was the piano suite Cerdana.
