JOSEPH ASCHER

3rd June 1829 --- 20th June 1869

Josepth Ascher was born in Groningen,  Netherlands he  came from a Jewish family,  Ascher later on move to London to become a cantor,  in
the Jewish faith is one who sings and leads people in prayer in a Jewish religious service,  and may be called hazzan. This is were he started
his musical studies in London. After which he continued them at the Leipzig Conservatory with Ignaz Moscheles as his teacher, but for some
reason he did not graduate.

His talent as a pianist were recognized by the Empress Eugénie of France, who asked him to become her court pianist in 1849,  which he did
accept. It was in 1865 that Ascher decided to moved back to London, which maybe because while in Paris he was succeeded as court pianist
by Émile Waldteufel.

He died in 1869 in London from the  result of what some 19th-century sources call  "indulging in sensual pleasures or vices".  If he had been
more careful  in his choice  of people he consorted with,  One source said  "he might have proved  one of the greatest  composer  and painist
among recent musicians of his times".

In his life  time Ascher had composed about 170 works for the piano,  which included works for piano four and eight hands,  among his other
works are ballads and even some display pieces for solo singers with piano accompaniment.
