Leoplold Godowski was a Polish-American (Lithuania born) musician and composer, he was born at Vilnus, Lithuania on Feb 13th 1870.
He made his debut as a pianist there as a child of nine years old, and then toured Russia, Poland, Germany and the United States.  After
1912 most of his tours were confined to the latter country.

His compositions  included 53 original studies after etudes of Chopin,  a sonata in E minor,  and many other compositions for piano and
violin, as well as some original works Passacaglia (1927), Java Suite (1925), and Triakontameron (1920). He died of stomach cancer in
New York city November 1938.
