Georg Eduard Goltermann was born in 1824 in Hanover, Niedersachsen, Germany. Goltermann father was an organist, and introduced Goltermann
at a early age to music.   He was sent to Munich to study cello  lessons from Joseph Menter,   who was considered  one of the most  important cello

In 1852, he began his career touring Europe as a cello soloist, and a year later in 1853, he moved and settled down in Frankfurt, to become deputy
music director of the municipal theater, and 20 years later he became Kapellmeister in 1874.

cello concerto No.4,   and still remains a popular way of teaching cello students in the art of technique,   and is also use as a teaching aid in giving a
understanding of concerto style of compostion.

Goltermann died at the age of 74 in 1898 in Frankfurt, Germany.
