LEON BOELLMANN

25thSeptember 1862 --- 11thOctober 1897

French Organist and composer, Boellmann was born in Ensisheim in 1862, he trained as an organist at a early age at the
school  of  Classical  and religious music  in Paris  under  Eugene Gigout  a teacher of  church music in Paris.  It was here
that  he  won  first prize in piano,  organ  composition,  later he  graduated  in  1881 and  was  then  later  hired  as chief
organist  at the  Church  of  St. Vincent de  Paul,  he later became cantor and  tutor a post  he held  until his  early  death
in 1897.

It is here that  he composed his "Gothic Suite" which is  well known, as also are his "Symphonic Cariations" for chello and
orchestra.

Boellmann met  Louise Lefevre who was the daughter of Gustave Lefevre who he married in 1885, she was also  the niece
of Eugène Gigout who's house they maoved into when they married. After which Boëllmann then taught in Gigout's school
of organ  playing and  improvisation.  He had a  pleasant personality  and made  good friends with many artists  of his  era
he gave concerts thoughout France, he was a very gifted composer and performer
