1885 --- 1944

For a full Bio on Agustin Mangore Barrios please visit This website. Below is just a brief Bio.

Agustin Mangore Barrios was born in San Juan Bautista (this is disputed as there is no real evidence to support this), Paraguay in 1885,
Barrios at  a early age had a  love and interest  in music and  reading, he was drawn to the guitar as  his instrument  of choice,  he had a
keen interest in Paraguayan folk music , which he then incorporated into his diverse compositional style.   He went to Asunción in 1901,
and attended the university Nacional de Asuncion.

As well as his studies in music, he also studied mathematics, Barrios became a skilled graphic artist, one of his first jobs was working in
a bank and later Paraguayan Naval office. Shortly after leaving the Navel Office he had decided to concentrate on his music, poetry, and
travel. Barrios composed over a 100 of his own works and arranged a few 100's of others composers works.

Barrios composing was mostly  in the late-Romantic syle,  he toured throughout  Europe from 1934 to 1935,  he also toured throughout
South America, Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba, etc, his dream was to visit the U.S.A and travelled to Costa Rica in around 1937.

On a trip to Guatemala City Barrios suffered a heart attack in front of the US Embassy in 1939 and it was at this date it was found he had
been travelling on fake diplomatic papers.  He was offered by the President of El Salvador to take a position in the Conservatory,  Barrios
then spent the rest of his life in El Salvador.  Barrios in 1944 died of a suspected Heart attack,  there was a suggection that he could have
been poison, if so it was a very  sad ending to such a great and underrated composer.  Barrios is still revered in Latin America to this day.
