ARTHUR WOOD

24th January 1875 --- 18th January 1953

Arthur Wood was born in Heckmondwike,  Yorkshire. His father played violin in his local amateur orchestra,  which sparked wood's
interest in music and Wood began to learn the violin, the flute and piccolo, the latter 2 became his favorite instruments.

Seven years later in 1882 he and his family moved to Harrogate, it was around this time he started having flute lessons from Arthur
Brookes,  who was a member of a local spa orchestra.  I am not sure of the reason why but he left school early when he was only 12
years old,  and two years later became organist of a Presbyterian Church in Harrogate.  In 1891 he had become the lead flautist and
pianist as well as deputy conductor of the Harrogate Municipal Orchestra.

By the time he was 28, he had become the director of music at Terry's Theatre in London. Wood also went on to conduct the London
theatre orchestras  for over three decades,  he also conducted at the Shaftesbury Theatre,  Theatre Royal and Drury Lane. He died in
London on 18 January 1953.

Wood composed a vast variety of works in various categories, one thing thats is a amazing, is that he was self-taught in composition
and orchestration. One of his first published work, the orchestral work Three Old Dances,  I have now sequenced Three Mask Dances
for solo piano below.
