WITOLD LUTOSLAWSKI

25th January 1913 --- 7th February 1994

Witold Lutoslawski was  born in Warsaw in 1913,  a outstanding Polish composer and  conductor of the 20th century classical music,  who composing
stlye was mostly forcus on, atonal counterpoint, folk songs and controlled improvisations but also continued using conventional harmony and melody.

Lutoslawski had earned many international awards and prizes  for his works such as his  four symphonys which he conducted himself.  He went to the
University of Warsaw and received diplomas composition in 1937,  some of his early works  were strongly influenced by his own country's  folk music.

During the WW2  during the Nazi occupation  and then after the war  when the new communist  government came into power,  his music was banned
from producing  works for public performance  but the government  considered his early symphonies and other  works which he had composed  in the
conventional neoclassical stlye as too "formalist".

Lutoslawski works such as Funeral Music for string orchestra (1958)  as a 12-tone work and was deditcated to the  late composer Béla Bartók, he also
based his Concerto for Orchestrain he used Polish folk tunes.

Although Lutoslawski is  best known for his orchestral pieces he did others works like coral works,  children songs,  string quartets  as well as others.
He died in Warsaw in 1994.
