Norman O'Neill was an English composer and conductor who was born in Kensington,  London,  his father was a quiet well  known Irish Artist,
O'Neill is mostly remembered for his works he composed for the theatre. He began to study under Arthur Somervell in London,  and later went
to study with Iwan Knorr at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt from 1893 to 1897. It was at this time that O'Neill joined the Frankfurt Group,
which were a group of composers who studied at Hoch's Conservatory in the late 1890s.

O'Neill did have some success in Concert music, his overture In Autumn which was performed in 1901 at the Henry Wood Proms. but it was his
incidental music to a production of Hamlet at the Lyric Theatre, in London that his love for the theatre took hold, and in 1909 he was appointed
Music Director of the Haymarket Theatre with which he had a long association with.

O'Neill produced over fifty sets of incidental music for plays, including Hamlet, Macbeth, Henry V , as well as Mary Rose which proved to one of
his most popular works.
