WILHELM MEYER LUTZ

19thMay 1829 --- 31stJanuary 1903

Lutz was born in Bavaria, Germany. His father was Joseph Lutz (1801-1879), a music professor who introduce music to his son in the 1830's
later Lutz studied music in Würzburg, his mentors in music were Eisenhofer and Keller.

He became quite a renowned pianist  and went over to England in 1846 to play some concerts,  he liked it so much in England that he moved
there in 1848. He started as an organist in churches first in the Midlands then later in Leeds, Yorkshire.

It was about 3 years later he composed two operas,  The Charmed Harp in 1852 and a grand opera,  Faust and Marguerite in 1855.  Lutz was
active as a conductor of touring theater companies around the country,  going to Liverpool,  Derby and London to just name a few.  Lutz was
mainly a composer and conductor  of light opera and musical theater and became a conductor at the Surrey Theater in Lambeth,  1850-1855
and later a resident musical director and conductor at the Gaiety Theater in the West End, 1869-1894.

Some of his opera works such as, The Miller of Milburg in 1872,  Little Jack Sheppard in 1885 and Cinder Ellen up too Late in 1893 as well as
producing other works. Lutz died in 1903 (aged 73), in Kensington, London.
