Francis Thome was a French pianist and composer,  he was born in 1850 at Port Louis,  Mauritius,  he was recognise at a early age for his talent
for music, and he was sent off to studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Jules Duprato and Ambroise Thomas. He later became well known as a
composer of salon music after leaving the conservatoire, and was always busy as a teacher and pianist.

His works became very well  known and were very  successful in the  French provinces,  Thome produce opera's  but his first 2  were performed
outside of Paris,  it was not until the end of the 19th century that his works began to become popular,  Thome composed various types of music
for example he  produced music to accompanied poems,  his works also include ballet's,  stage works, various  incidental music for plays,  stage
works, he also composed Operettas and latter wrote in collaboration with Victorin de Joncieres, Georges Pfeiffer and Ernest Guiraud.

Thome had a fair level of success in his works, right up to the time of his death in 1909.
