THOMAS WILLIAM THURBAN

3rd January 1874   ---   26th November 1967

I could only find a little information on this composer.

Thurban had a all around musical ability and could play  nearly every instrument in the orchestra. Thurban became the principal violinist in
the Oxford Music Hall orchestra in around 1900, his career, from what I could tell was   interrupted by the First World War. He wrote in the
1900's a series of works in the style of ragtime,  as well as composing a series of suites in the 1920's,  such as the Americana suite and the
Africana suite, which are usually performed on concert programs by wind bands and brass bands.

Thurban became  the music director  of the London Coliseum in 1930  and from that time mainly composed pieces for the accordion.  From
1935 to 1939, he wrote various technical recommendations for the instrument in Rhythm magazine.

Some of his works include Dreams of Ragtime (1909), Italiana suite (1924) pieces for the piano, The Permans' Brooklyn Cake Walk (1899)
and War whoop rag, Indische two-step, (1908).
