THOMAS CHILCOT

1700's --- 24th November 1766

Thomas Chilcot was born in the early 1700's in somerset somewere in or near Bath, his father was a John Chilcot. Most of the information
on Chilcot early life has been lost, it is said Chilcot was educated in Bath, were the headmaster a Henry Dixon, had because of his interest
in church music,  had a influenced  on Chilcot.  That is why  later he was sent to study under  Josiah Priest  who was the  organist of  Bath
Abbey.  Several years later Priest died,  and Chilcot was appointed the Abbey organist,  the appointment  was made permanent  in around
1728,  Chilcot had now become well known as a musician and organist in Bath that he established himself with many of the wealthy noble
families in the area. He was also amongst the original members of the Royal Society of Musicians, founded in 1738.

Chilcot had directed  some ambitious choral concerts,  were he played some of his own concertos,  he is also said to have also  run a small
instrument hire business. He was married in Bath in 1729, and had seven children,  his wife died 1748?.  Soon after his first wife death he
met then married Anne Wrey, who belonged to a prominent West Country family in 1749.

Chilcot died suddenly 1766,  unusually hardly  any public notice was taken of his death,  because of a disagreement  over Chilcot's estate,
none of Chilcot final wishes on his furnal procession or memorial trusts, were ever carried out

Some of his published music,   Six Suites of Lessons  for the Harpsicord or Spinet  (1736) and Six Concertos,   for the Harpsichord  (1756),
there are proberly a lot more works by Chilcot that have now been lost to time.
