RUDOLPH KREUTZER

15thNovember 1766 --- 6thJanuary 1831

French Violinist of German extraction, he was born at Versailles in 1766, his father who at the time was a musician in the
royal chapel.  Rudolph gradually became famous as a violinist,  playing with great success at various continental capitals.

It was to him that in 1803,  Beethoven dedicated  his famous violin sonata,  Opus.47 , which is now universally  known by
his name, alhough he  never played the work.  Kreutzer made the acquaintance  of Beethoven in 1798,  when at Vienna in
the service of the French ambassador, and of course Kreutzer was a prolific composer.
