ROGER O'DELL WILLIAMS

Born   1930

I am sure you will enjoy this music from this talented composer.

Please note Roger's  work is copyrighted, and is for   personal downloading only,   please ask permission  of the composer
before  any other  use.  I think  his old  email is  no  longer valid,  I last  heard  from  him  in  1999 but  you may   find  him
with a google search.

He has combined a lifelong interest in cinema and also in music into activities in both these fields. While still in college, at
Loyola University  in New Orleans,  he composed a score for  an experimental  film on architecture  working with students
from Tulane  University.   He studied piano,  while at Loyola,  with Eugenia Passera and later with Istvan Nadas,  himself a
prize piano pupil of Bartok in Budapest.

He also studied composition with Guy Bernard and later with Dr. Miguel Bernal-Jiminez, organist and composer of Morelia
Mexico. He has a degree in piano and composition.

He has studied 35mm film production at Delgado College in New Orleans, where he wrote and directed a film and has also
studied video production and film production at Tulane University and Loyola University. His films all non theatrical which
include submissions to the Cannes Festival.

The Carracas Avante Garde Festival and the Kinetic Image Festival in Florida, where his film was awarded a prize.

Most of his  films combine music with  cinematography in a sythesized way.   He has utilized music of Debussy,  Frederick
Delius and Jacques Ibert as well as original scores. His compositions include music for solo piano, duo-piano, organ brass
ensembles, woodwind ensembles, vocal music,  chamber music for strings and orchestral music.  His three new works for
organ were  performed in  Detroit in 1998 and  recent works include a  duo for violin and cello  as well as suites  for brass
quartet and several new works for keyboard.   He has recently  acquired a Moog theremin and plans to utilize  this unique
instrument in new works which will also include organ, sythesizers and samplers.

In 1985 he founded Media Arts Associates (www.mediafilms.com) which archives 8mm,  Super 8mm and 16mm films and
supplies them to collectors,  museums and other archives worldwide.   A recent development of this company,  soon to go
online, will be the Orpheus Film & Music Archives,  dedicated to films about classical music,  jazz and folk music as well as
historic audio and video items and printed music.

He appreciates the fact that midi affords  composers of all kinds a new and  unique way  to disseminate their music.   The
system, though still in its infancy,   undoubtedly improve in its capacity to more nearly mirror recorded live performances
as well as being a coherent and viable system for creative expression in itself.

The above was written by his son from what I can remember.
