This is on the Chandos CD CHAN 6543 It was composed in 1885 at the instigation of Paul Taffenel, a flute virtuoso and friend who had set up in Paris a society specifically to perform Wind Instrument chamber music. Taffenal taught a number of gifted pupils at the Paris Conservatoire, founding a school of French flute playing which continues to this day Gounod accordingly scored his work for pairs of Oboes Clarinets Horns and Bassoons but only a single flute which figures prominently both in lyrical and display passages ( though the Midi file has 2 flutes - probably for sequencing reasons ) Anyway it is a fine effort and I am very glad to have this file - see if you can persuade the author to sequence the other 3 movements regards John Briggs
