GUSTAV ADOLF MERKEL

12th November 1827   ---   30th October 1885

Gustav Adolf Merkel born on 1827 in Oberoderwitz, Germany, his father was a teacher of the Organ, who knew Schumann who gave the young
Merkel some lessons,  because of his father most of his output was for the Organ, Merkel spent most of his time and career in Dresden were he
taught the Organ at the Dresden's Conservatory.

Merkel most well known works were for the Organ which included 9 organ sonatas, and are quite often played at Organ recitals.  Merkel based
his stlye of music  mostly on Mendelssohn,  he also wrote various  Coral and Piano works as well as some salon pieces.   Merkel died  in 1885 in
Dresden.
