For a full Bio on Marianne Von Martinez please visit This website. Below is just a brief Bio.

Marianne von Martinez,  who was more well known  by name of Marianna Martines,  was a composer,  pianist and singer, Martinez was born in Vienna,
Austria on the 4th May, 1744. Metastasio who was a famous Italian opera librettist of his time, and a good family friend, had noticed the extraordinary
musical talent's of Martinez. Metastasio arranged her musical education,  and had Porpora teach her in singing,  Porpara had met Haydn and taken him
on as his assistant, (who was at the beginning of his career at the time), Haydn lived in the top apartment of the building that Martinez lived in, Haydn
taught Martinez to play the harpsichord and would accompany her in singing, she also had a great talent for composition.

As a Teenager Martinez would perform before the Imperial court,  where she attracted attention with her beautiful voice and keyboard playing.   When
Marianna was in her 20's she would frequently be asked to perform before the Empress Maria Theresa. She composed a number of works for solo voice
with a selection  of secular cantatas and  two oratorios to Italian texts,  Martinez playing of the  harpsichord compared to the style  of Bach. Martinez's
compositions was held in high regard, she was the author of the only symphony composed by a woman during the Classical period in music 1750–1790
Martinez was also the first woman to be admitted to the Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna in 1773.

She was an active and highly accomplished performer and composer, but never sought an appointed position, as it was frown upon for a woman in her
social class to  seek such employment.   She died of tuberculosis in 1812,  and sadly soon after her death her international reputation and stardom was
quickly obscured, unlike Haydn and Mozart who's names still live on, it only in the 20th century that some of her works have been played and recorded.
