He was born in Kristiansand/ NORWAY. He studied music at the Music Conservatory in Kristiansand.

He received his masters degree in music at the Norwegian Institute of Music in Oslo.
He is the most successful and popular song writer with over 60 national chart hits. He was also two time winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in the years 1985 ( " La det swinge" ) and 1995 ("Nocturne") .

He is also the founder of the group "Secret Garden" Their first album was "Songs from Secret Garden" and released in more than 80 countries throughout the world. This album sold more than a million copies. Secret Garden has an official web site Secretgarden.no.
