For a full Bio on Jean-Marie Leclair please visit This website. Below is just a brief Bio.

Leclair was born in Lyon, France in 1697, not sure how but he went to sudy the violin and composition in Turin, Italy. Leclair married early in
life at the age of 19 years old to a Marie-Rose Casthanie. Leclair returned to Paris in 1723, he had composed various pieces that he played at
the Concert Spirituel.

Leclair after the death of his first wife in 1728, remarried in 1730 to his second wife Louise Roussel, who was a engraver and prepared all his
compositions for printing.  He became Director of Music to the Chapel, King Louis XV in 1733.  Leclair later dedicated his violin sonatas to the
king, sortly after Leclair resigned from his post in 1736, after a very heated disagreement with Jean-Pierre Guignon.

In 1738 Leclair was engaged by the Princess of Orange, and served her court in Leeuwarden, for part of the year, and for the rest of the year
he would work in the Hague as a Maestro Di Cappella.  Leclair left the services of the Princess of Orange,  in 1743 when he returned to Paris.
Leclair was now a renowned violinist and composer, some of his works include, several sonatas for flute and basso continuo, suites, sonatas,
and concertos, he produce only one opera, Scylla et Glaucus, although a lot of his stage music and others are now lost to history, many of his
pieces are still played now again in our era.

Sadly Leclair was found murdered in 1764 at his property, although there are a few suspect's, no one was ever charge with his murder.
