LANGTON WILLIAMS

1832 --- 1896

There is very little information on this composer

He was born in 1832 as William John Daft in London, but for some reason the family preferred to use the surname Willians, and thus
Langdon was  known on all  his compositions as Langdon Williams.  Most of of his works were  published from the 1850's  to the mid
1890s, he was well known for writing music for the singers of that period like a Madame Parepa,  Miss Poole as well as other famous
female singer's of the era. Williams was also a composer, music teacher and a Professor of Music.

His father became in 1871  a music publisher. but before that in 1865 Langdon's  sister Ann had married a Joseph James Harris who
sold music and was engaged in the manufacture and sale of pianos. Langdon Williams now had a way of having his music published
via his Father but had used other publishers before this and still used them after this time.

Langton Williams never married, and died in 1896. Although his works continued to be  published for around another 20 years, he
had fallen out of favour in the roaring 1920's music era. Some of his composition like The wood - nymph's call 1864, The muleteer
polka 1857,  and the Sparkling cascades  (mazurka brillante) 1863,  (I done the midi for this below).  You can still download sheet
music of some of his works.
