JULIUS SCHULHOFF

This is all I could find on this composer.

Schulhoff born in Prague 1825, he was a very well known pianist and composer of virtuosic salon pieces for solo piano, which included a grand
sonata in F minor, twelve études, and various caprices, impromptus, waltzes, and mazurkas.

He went to studied the piano with Siegfried Kisch,  as well as Ignaz Tedesco in Prague, and also studied with many other  famous pianist of the
time. One of his first public performance was in Dresden, at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig in 1843.  Schulhoff then moved to France and spent the
next several  years in Paris,  it was here that he met Chopin,  who saw his talent  and encouraged him to become a  professional pianist  and at
Chopin's suggestion  that he preform some concerts in Paris,  his prefomance's  were greeted with such acclaim,  he then went on a grand tour
first around France and then Britian, then went on to tour Spain (1851) and Russia in 1853.

Schulhoff after years of touring  wanted to settle down to devote himself to teaching and composition,  and went back to Paris,  later Schulhoff
moved to Dresden in 1870, he then took a teaching post in Berlin, where he taught and obtained the title of professor of music in 1897. He died
in Berlin in 1898.

He had among his pupils, such as,   Edouard Lalo (1823-1892),  Alexander von Fielitz  (1860-1930). He left about sixty  compositions mainly for
saloon music.
