JOHN MILFORD RUTTER

24th September 1945 ---

John Rutter was born on 24 September 1945 in London, His father was a industrial chemist, Rutter  in his early years grew up in London living
in over the Globe pub.  He went to Highgate School where he studied with fellow pupils such  as Howard Shelley,  John Tavener,  and Nicholas
Snowman, he then took the post of chorister there,  it was here he took part in the first   recording of Edward Benjamin Britten's War Requiem
under the composer's baton.  After which he went to Clare College,  Cambridge,  to study and read music,  it was here he became a member of
the choir. It was while a undergraduate he had one of his first compositions published, which included the Shepherd's Pipe Carol which he had
written in 1963 at the tender age of 18. He then went and became the director of music at Clare College from 1975 to 1979 and led the choir to
international prominence.

By 1981 John Rutter had founded his own choir, known as the Cambridge Singers, he has done and made many wonderful recordings of sacred
choral repertoire, which includ's his own works. Which John Rutter does under his own label Collegium Records. He lives in Hemingford Abbots
and frequently conducts many choirs and orchestras around the world.
