Edvard Armas Jarnefelt was a Finnish composer and conductor, he was born at Viipuri in 1869. He studied in Helsinki and afterwards in Berlin and Paris,
From 1898 to 1903  he conducted concerts at Viipuri.  In 1904 he went to Helsinki as  conductor of the opera and from 1906 to 1907  was director of the
musical institute in that city.  Jarnefelt returned from Stockholm to Helsinki to become  principal conductor of the Helsinki  Philharmonic Orchestra 1942
to 1943, and was also the chief conductor of the Royal Swedish Opera from 1938 to 1946.

In 1907 he moved to Stockholm, where he was Hofkapellmeister.  Jarnefelt is probably one of the best known composers after Sibelius, who was also his
brother-in-law.  Jernefelt most well known piece Praludium (which I have sequenced below) and his songs do appeal to a wider public. His works include
Korsholm,  a symphonic poem (1894),  Helmatklang,  a symphonic fantasy (1895), Serenade,  Praludium to drama The Promised Land, etc, etc. He died in
Stockholm in 1958. He is buried in the Hietaniemi Churchyard in Helsinki.
