GUSTAV LANGE

13thAugust 1830 --- 20thJuly 1889

Gustav Lange was a German composer.  He was born in Schwerstedt, Saxony,  in 1830. Lange  is mainly known for his melodious
salon music for the piano,  Lange produced a phenomenal number of works,  he wrote over 450 pieces, most as I said are mainly
light and popular musical pieces.

Lange received his initial  musical training  mainly from his father  on the piano and organ,  he then went to the  conservatory to
study piano, organ and then onto composition, at the Royal Institute for Church Music in Berlin. He study under various teachers
which included August Wilhelm Bach, and Eduard Grell.

Some of his more well known pieces such as, piano solos, Edelweiss (Opus.31),  and Blumenlied (Opus.39),  although it is better
known as Flower Song, are perhaps two of his best known works today, and are cherished by music lovers.

He lived for many years in Berlin and died at Wernigerode in 1889.
