ANIBAL AUGUSTO SARDINHA (GAROTO)

28thJune 1915 --- 3rdMay 1955

Anibal Augusto Sardinha, better known as Garoto, which means in Portuguese "The Kid" was born on June 28th 1915. Garoto would
bring changes to  Brazilian music  which would change  its history,  created by  this brilliant composer and guitarist.  Garoto musical
interest stated at the age eleven,  it was at this time he got his first instrument the Banjo,  it was  from this time that he  started his
career in music, it took only a few months for him to begin to master the Banjo and it was  from this time  he got his name  "Garoto"

It was 1927 with the introduction of the electric record player which first arrived in Brazil, Garoto recorded his music in record form
in 1929 with his teacher Paraguassu.  It was  from this period that he began to play through out the  State of Sao Paulo then moved
onto Rio de Janeiro in 1938 with the firm intention to start a new directions to his career.

It was while he was in Rio de  Janeiro that he met  Carmen Miranda who asked him  to accompany her  to South America  then went
onto the USA  on the 18th October 1939.  First he went to  Uruguay and  then onto the United States,  when in the USA,  many of the
big names of the jazz scene would come to the concerts to marveled at the young modern and virtuoso musician Garoto.

In the last 15 years of his life,Garoto worked very hard, playing in recording sessions,  it was at this time he was  composing some of
his most wonderful Brazilians  songs With records  selling over  a million copies.  We must remember  that Garoto was  the  man who
gave new directions  to Brazilian Popular  Music and of  course influencing  the next  generation  Brazilian artists and  creating a new
style of music known as the "Bossa Nova".
