FRANCOIS JOSEPH GOSSEC

17thJanuary 1734 --- 16thFebuary 1829

Gossec was a french Musical composer, a son of a small farmer, Gossec was born at the village of Vergnies, in Belgian Hainaut and
became a choir boy at Antwerp at a ealy age.

He then made his way to Paris in 1751, were he was introduced by Rameau to La Popelimiere,  a wealthy amateur,  who made him
the conductor of his private Orchestra. His first symphony was proformed in 1754, he became a conductor to the Prince De Condes
Orchestra, Gossec produced several Operas and some 30 symphonies.

Gossec founded the Concert des Amateurs in 1769, then in 1773 he completely reorganised the Concert Spirituel. It was here that
he proformed his concert series were he also conducted his own symphonies as well as those done by his contemporaries, he took
particularly interest  in the works by Joseph Haydn,  whose music had become more increasingly popular  in Paris and finally even
superseding Gossec's symphonic work.

Gossec gave enormous simulus to  the development of orchestral and chamber music in Frnace.  He died in Passy on Febuary 16th
1829.

Gossec produced  around 30 Symphonies  as well as Opera's  like  Le faux Lord,  opéra comique (1765) and Nitocris,  opera (1783)
Chamber Music  for example  Six quatuors à  deux violons,  alto et basse, Op.15  (1772) and then  Vocal and choral  works such as
La Nativité, oratorio (1774) and Dernière messe des vivants,for four voices, chorus and orchestra (1813).
