EUGENE KETTERER

7th July 1831 --- 18th December 1870

I could not find many  details on Eugene Ketterer,  but  I have put  here what  I have found  from the internet.

Eugene Ketterer born in Rouen,  France, his musical talent's at the  Piano were such that he became a student
at the Paris  Conservatoire  in the 1840's,  he won  a prize in  his abilities in  Solfege in 1847,  he then  went to
studied with Antoine François Marmontel.

After Ketterer graduated, it was now he began to appeared constantly as a pianist and composer winning high
acclaim for his fantasies and drawing-room pieces.  Ketterer wrote a large body of works,  of which  only a few
are still in the repertoire.

Ketterer died  in December 18th  1870 during the siege of  Paris in the Franco--Prussian War  of 1870 to 1871.

Ketterer's transcriptions of many popular operas,  many of which are still famous today,  and give a glimpse of
the world of opera in France in the 1850's to 1860's.  Ketterer's transcriptions were later arranged  for piano 4
hands by other arrangers such as Joseph Rummel etc.
