DANIEL FRANCOIS ESPRIT AUBER

21st January 1782 --- 13th May 1871

Daniel Francois Esprit Auber was born on the January 29th 1782, a french composer, born in Caen in Normandy.

Auber father wanted  him to join him in his print  selling trade  but he had  a great love for music,  and at a early
age was able  to play at least  several different  instruments,  he met  Josef Alois Ladurner  who became  his first
teacher,  by the time he  reach the age  of around 19  to 20 years of age he  had to go to London  to complete his
business training, but had to leave later because Britain was then as war with France.

Auber began to change the direction he was going, by 1811 he had produce some concertos and some had  been
published and was  praise for his composions  it was around  this time he decided  is was time to  leave the print
selling trade and concentrate on musical composition.  Auber thought it was time to do  regular study on the art
of composition, he became a pupil of Cherubini, who saw all the qualities of Auber as a composer.

In 1813 Auber first oprea Le sojour militaire  was not received well which put a temporary halt to his composing
career. The death of his father in 1819 now was the time that he then turned back to what was his true vocation
composing, he produce his  opera Le testament et  les billets-doux (1819),  was again not well  received but this
time he persevered.

He then had a long series of brilliant successes in opera and french comic opera, he did around 50 operas.

In 1842, at the request of King Louis Philippe, he succeeded Cherubini as director of the Conservatoire.
