Charles Mayer was a Prussian pianist and composer.

Charles Mayer  was a Prussian pianist  and composer and  was born in  Prussia and soon after  his birth the family  moved to Saint Petersburg
Mayer was 4 or 5 years old when his family then moved to Moscow. His mother taught him in his early musical education, but as he advanced
he was then sent  to study under John Field  the Irish composer  and teacher who was living  in Moscow at that time,  the family  had to move
from Moscow in 1812 due to Napoleon invasion of Russia and his march into Moscow, they were force to returned to Saint Petersburg, but he
still continued his studies with John Field. His first successful tour as a concert pianist was in 1814 which he toured through Poland, Germany
Holland, and France, After his tour he then settled in Saint Petersburg in 1819. Mayer did a concert tour in 1845, he travelled through Sweden
(Stockholm), Germany (Hamburg, Leipzig) and Austria (Vienna). Mayer withdrew to Dresden in 1846.

Mayer became a successful teacher and composer, who taught many pupils including the famous Russian pianist and composer Mikhail Glinka
as well as few others.  Mayer composed  mainly for the piano,  of which most were studies for piano,  including variations on popular melodies
and some dances. you can still download sheet music on this composer from various sites
