FRANZ ADOLF BERWALD

Franz Adolf Berwald was born in Stockholm on 3rd July 1796,  he developed his interest in music from  a early age as he came from a family of
renowned musician's,  Berwald studied under his father and Du Puy for the violin and composition, he later  went on to join the Swedish court
orchestra and began touring with the Orchestra as a violinist, which he did for a number of years.

Berwald later in 1829, traveled to Germany and took up residence in Berlin, unfortunately after a few years he was unable to live off his music,
and opened a   orthopedic establishment,  which soon flourished and  became so successful that  Berwald decided to move to Vienna in around
1842, he did achieved some early success with his symphonic poems, but that soon faded, Berwald then decided to moved back to Sweden.  In
1846 Berwald decided to try again and travelled to Paris and Viennia to try and build up his reputation as a composer,  but he was unable to be
successful enough to earn a living or make a name for himself.

Berwald decided to  travel back to Northern Sweden  (1850–58),  he became a  manager of a glassworks (1850)  and part owner of a  saw mill
1853, and even briefly operated a brick factory. Berwald died in Stockholm in 1868 of pneumonia, it was not until many years later that two of
his symphonies were premiered one in 1905 and the other in 1914, one was Symphony No. 2 in D major, Capricieuse and Symphony No. 3 in C
major, Singulière.
