ALFONS CZIBULKA

14th May 1842 --- 27th October 1894

Czibulka was born in Upper Hungary in 1842, its not known who taught him music when he was young but the first we here of him is in 1857,
when he first came to prominence,  on his tour of Southern Russia giving piano recitals and concerts.  Later on he took the position of musical
director at the French Opera in Odessa,  then in 1865 he was appointed under Franz von Suppé as the second conductor at the Carl Theatre in
Vienna.

A year later he joined the military   as a military bandmaster in Austro-Hungarian Infantry Regiment.  In 1869 he held the position of military
bandmaster with other unit's of the Infantry,   until 1871. Czibulka became very successful   as a conductor and composer within the military,
Czibulka was promoted to Kapellmeister to the Infantry Regiment No. 25 in Prague in 1872.

One of Czibulka most famous pieces he composed was Stephanie Gavotte which he had dedicated to Princess Stéphanie of Belgium. which was
one of the most popular salon music pieces of the 19th century.  He is today best remembered for his association with the famous piece Hearts
and Flowers, he also composed his work Wintermärchen Waltzes, Opus.366 (1891).

When he left the military he became music director in 1889 of the Concert House Flora in Hamburg. He died in Vienna in 1894.
