CARL FRIEDRICH ABEL

22ndDecember 1723 --- 20thJune 1787

Karl Friedrich Abel was born in 1723 in Germany at a place called Cothen, who studied at first under his father a Christian Ferdinand Abel
who played  the Violin and viola da gamba, Abel preferred the viola da gamba and was a great player of the instrument and composed many
pieces for it.  When his father died in 1737,  Able then went and studied under the great J.S.Bach at the Leipzig Thomasschule for around 10
years until 1758.

He then followed  in the footsteps of other great German composers like handel, but I found that does not seem the case as the Seven Years
War was tearing germany apart at the time and Abel fled first to France and then went onto England in around 1758, in 1759 Abel held his
first concert, which lead to him becoming in the same year the chamber musician of Queen Charlotte.

Some years  later in 1764 he  joined up with Johann Christian  Bach who was one of the sons of the famous J.S.Bach to form and create the
Abel - Bach concerts.

In 1781  some of these concerts  were preformed in  a room built at vthe Hanover Square for this prepose in which Abel & Bach performed
their own works, Abel was one of the last great composers for the Viola de Gamba.

Around 1782 he went on a tour back to his native Germany, which included a visit to Crown Prince of Prussia at Potsdam, he then returned
back to London in 1785 and began to gave a series of concerts.

Among his works some string quartets, string trios, sonatas, and other chamber music for various combination, as well as sonatas and other
pieces for viola da gamba, including around 30 symphonies.

More informtion on this composer can be found on the Net.
